Only dead men can see God. God is Holy and mankind is not. Living flesh would instantly die if it encountered the unshielded, uncovered glory of God. Our flesh can only see God if it's been transformed in the process of death and resurrection and through His shed blood. Only dead men can see God's face.
We have been calling God to come nearer to us and draw near to us, and He has been all this while, but it is a double-edged sword. I believe that God wants to draw near to us, but at the same time is warning us that if we want Him to be any nearer, we've got to make sure that everything is dead first. The more death God smells, the closer He can come.
We want life, but God is looking for death.
Anyway i read from the book and for my devotion today about when King David wanted to move the Ark back to Israel, this is in 1 Chronicles 13.
5 So David assembled all the Israelites, from the Shihor River in Egypt to Lebo Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim. 6 David and all the Israelites with him went to Baalah of Judah (Kiriath Jearim) to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD, who is enthroned between the cherubim—the ark that is called by the Name.
7 They moved the ark of God from Abinadab's house on a new cart, with Uzzah and Ahio guiding it. 8 David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, tambourines, cymbals and trumpets.
9 When they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark, because the oxen stumbled. 10 The LORD's anger burned against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God.
I wondered why Uzzah got struck down by God, is it because he tried to help steady the ark when the oxen stumbled? I later read and found out in the book that the presence of God never needs the assistance or guidance of man;s strength to hold its rightful place. Nor will God ever
allow the arm of flesh to glory in His presence without tasting death. God's glory "broke out"on the flesh that drew near to its living state and Uzzah was instantly killed. Only dead man can see God's face, and only repentant dead flesh can touch His glory.
God is serious with us and He means business. May we not muck around and take God's mercy and grace for us for granted. God is a Holy God, His spirit is moving in our church, and His standard of Holiness has not changed. May we get serious with God, and make everyday on this earth count for eternity.
It’s all about Jesus It’s all about the way he changed our lives It’s all about Jesus The power of his blood can’t be denied
