Intercessory prayer.. need lots of that now..
Day 25.
Today i read about Jacob dying and before dying calls his 12 sons together and tells them what will happen to them in the days to come. Anyway the things he said weren't really pleasant and half of them were more like curses.. Don't know how his sons took it.. Reference is Genesis 49. But this is where the 12 tribes of Israel came about since, Jacob was renamed into Israel, and the 12 tribes were his 12 sons! The ones that stood out to me was Judah and Joseph, since Jacob had lots of good things to say about them.
8 “ Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise;
Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies;
Your father’s children shall bow down before you.
9 Judah is a lion’s whelp;
From the prey, my son, you have gone up.
He bows down, he lies down as a lion;
And as a lion, who shall rouse him?
10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
Until Shiloh comes;
And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
22 “ Joseph is a fruitful bough,
A fruitful bough by a well;
His branches run over the wall.
23 The archers have bitterly grieved him,
Shot at him and hated him.
24 But his bow remained in strength,
And the arms of his hands were made strong
By the hands of the Mighty God of Jacob
(From there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),
25 By the God of your father who will help you,
And by the Almighty who will bless you
With blessings of heaven above,
Blessings of the deep that lies beneath,
Blessings of the breasts and of the womb.
26 The blessings of your father
Have excelled the blessings of my ancestors,
Up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills.
They shall be on the head of Joseph,
And on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.
Day 24.
Today i read about Joseph revealing himself to his brothers, and i'm just amazed at how he still loves them and cares for them. It's understandable to see why he still care's for his father Jacob and asks if he's still alive and all that.. but for him to even weep and cry over his brothers which threw him into a pit and later on sold him away to merchants, i just find that very hard to believe. Joseph must have been so filled with love and compassion for his brothers, because they literally threw him out of his own father's house and threw him away from a comfortable rich life to one where he had to constantly work as a servant. It must have been the lowest point in his life when his own brothers whom he went to check up on sold him away to merchants for just a few silver coins.. But thank goodness God had a great plan for him, constantly looked out for him and provided for him too... I don't think normal people would still feel the same way after the events that happened in Joseph's life which were caused by his brothers, would still treat them with such love, care, and concern.. That really is admirable and to be able to do that is certainly something a true man of God would only do.
I like what the author said at the end of the passage.
"Few people can be rejected, insulted, slandered and vilified without carrying a grudge and harbouring hatred in their hearts - but it's possible. Joseph did it. Jesus did it. And, in God's strength, so can you."
At the start of the worship/prayer session i didn't really feel right, and just didn't feel peace in my heart, so i just prayed and prayed, then God told me this "why so downcast o my soul, put your hope in God." To me that sounded familiar,as though i've heard it from somewhere before, but then again i'm not sure if i have.. Anyway, that really spoke to me and led me to do a lot of thinking..God's so amazing.
One other thing that has been on my heart the whole week was something that i remembered from the hillsong conference that Judah Smith said. He said that we should stick close to those who loves us, and not those who we love.(something like that or along those lines) The thought has just been popping into my head the whole week, and i would just be reminded of this time and time again.. However i'm still not sure at what God's trying to get here, but it's made me think about myself, and the people i hang out with..makes me wonder if i'm appreciating those around me who love me.
Day 23.
Well today i read about the 7 years of great harvest, and the 7 years of great famine after that. Then how Joseph's brothers came to him to get grain from him because of the famine.. reading this passage reminded me of Joseph Prince's sermon on the Benjamin generation, because later on Joseph demands to meet his other brother(from the same mother), who is benjamin to see how he is doing..it was a pretty confusing sermon.. Anyway i don't think anything special stood out to me today, besides the fact of how greatly blessed Joseph is, and how wise he was(all glory to God!). Just amazed again at how God works, and how we humans can never understand what God has installed for us in the future. God truly is our provider! We just have to trust in the Lord.
Day 22.
So today i read about Joseph getting sold an Egyptian household where God's favour and blessings were upon him greatly! He found favour with his masters, and everything that he did, God prospered. And we can't also forget the important fact that he was well-built and handsome! I guess all these are just signs of showing when someone has found favour from God. But then all of a sudden things take a turn for the worse and somehow Joseph ends up in jail(basically coz the wife of the master lied about Joseph trying to sleep with her). And when you end up in a place like a jail for doing nothing wrong, I would naturally think that God's favour isn't upon me anymore, therefore bad things re happening to me.. e.g moving away from God's cover of protection? However we soon read that even while in jail, Joseph still had the favour of God, and God blessed him greatly as he was in the jail. To cut the long story short, at the end of the story, Joseph ends up being second to only the Pharaoh in the whole of Egypt! Joseph went through a lot of crazy things in his life from getting sold to merchants by his own brothers, then to getting accused of doing something which he was innocent of and getting sent to jail.. but finally through all these difficulties, God brought him through and Joseph ended up where he was meant to be. If Joseph had never been accused and sent to jail, i don't think he would have where God had placed him to be. So everything in life happens for a purpose when we follow God and obey His commands. But then the question i have is this: did God intend for Joseph to suffer all the humiliation and pain of betrayal, and false accusations? It must have been really painful for Joseph to go through them all..
Praise God it's a beautiful day, and I just have one thing to say. Nothing is better, than living my life for Jesus..
its made for me to thank You.
Thank You God for saving me,
from my sins I can be free,
thank You for Jesus Christ!
Thank You for Your love and care,
I can talk to You through a prayer.
From Your precious promises I can depend,
Thank You God for You!
---------------------
Got reminded of this song which i think i first sang aggeess ago when i was in a Scripture Union camp back in Singapore when i was around like 7 years old. I still remember that it was the first ever christian camp that i went to without my parents, and the point of the camp was to record some music cd, and all the kids who went for the camp were the singers! It was like a choir for kiddies sorta thing..but it was an awesome experience! I think it was like a 3 day 2 night sort of camp, and all we ever did was sing songs! On the last day of the camp we went to a recording studio and recorded our singing, and i still remember the day when they sent us a copy of the completed music cd, we would look through the 'credits/vocalist' section and we would be able to spot our names! As a kid i felt pretty proud of myself hahas.. But at the end of the day, the songs were awesome songs, and some of them just stuck with me because the lyrics of the songs really taught me more about God. To a 7 year old, that must have been pretty amazing.. Isn't God a genius!
Day 21.
Today was about Joseph(Jacob's youngest son) getting sold by his brothers.. Well i think i've read this or heard of this passage for like a million times already, but i guess the one thing i learnt this time as i read it again was that, even though Joseph was a man of God who clearly had God's favour upon his life e.g for all the dreams given to him, and favour from Jacob.. He still went through troubles and pains like getting sold to merchants by his other brothers from the same family! I mean if that happened to me, i would definitely not have felt good thats for sure.. But still God let that happen to him. However all these things and events that happened in Joseph's life all happened for a reason, and that was to make us a better person, and to fulfil in our lives the great calling God has placed upon us! So the next time whenever something not good happens to us(e.g getting sold out by fellow brothers), it all boils down to how we will react to situation.
"31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us"
-Romans 8:31
To God be all glory forever, and ever. Amen
You gave Your son freely for me
And I praise You for calling me, drawing me near
Out of blindness You cause me to see
----------
Hahas amazing how whenever we think about God, only beautiful thoughts fill our mind? Coz God's just sooo awesome and the things He does are just so great! I can never thank God enough for everything He's given me, and everything He's done in my life.. I wonder where i will be if not for God.. Thinking of God just puts a smile on my face everytime, and being with God is a totally different experience! hahaha, God your just the best!!
While searching for the lyrics of the song on top(which is an awesome song), i chanced upon another person's blog. The person was a total random, but we shared one thing in common, we both love God! And reading her posts was just so inspiring and encouraging, because she was just so full of praise for God, and her love for God was totally amazing as well. However, she like everyone else had her own problems and issues which she would share about, but at the end, she will always be praising God and giving thanks for who He is. What i really like is how she always addresses God as daddy, and always says "daddy, i love you"! Hehe, amazing how God can use somebody else's life from some other part of the world to speak to me :)) [nothing happens by chance]
Day 20.
Hmm so today i read about Jacob returning to meet with his brother Esau, where on the way he wrestled with someone, and his name got changed from Jacob to Israel.(so that's how Israel came about!) The one thing i found interesting as i was reading is who Jacob really wrestled against? The sub heading of the passage says Jacob wrestled with an angel, but then in one of the verses, the person said Jacob struggled with God and with men and have prevailed. Then later on Jacob says "I have seen God face to face, and have been delivered." So who did Jacob really wrestle against? In the earlier parts of the passage it said that because the person could not defeat Jacob, he struck Jacob in the hips. So if the person was an angel, or God, why couldn't they defeat Jacob? Wouldn't it have been heaps easy for them to just defeat him? I don't think they had to strike his hip to dislocate it just to get away... And i don't quite get the bit where the person says Jacob struggled with God and men, and prevailed. Did that refer to the angel himself? Or does it mean something else?
Father, thank you for listening to our prayers, may You help me to do whatever You want me to do, and may i live life the way You want me to live it. Jesus, You take control of my life, Jesus You take the wheel. In Jesus name i pray, Amen.
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His Glory and Grace
--------------------------------------
Another awesome that inspired me today! Whenever we feel at a loss, or in a situation where we don't know what to do, this always encourages me.. Recently i've personally been frustrated about a few things in my life, and about things around me aren't going right and i don't know what to do to make things right.. i just feel quite bleh sometimes, then i talk to few others and they have the same feelings, and everyone just feels at a loss.. But this song has always been showing me the right direction and what to do when i don't know what to do. The lyrics of this song just really hits me, and it rings so loudly inside of me.. Turn our eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace. AMEN!
Day 19.
Well today's devotion was on Esau's history.. it talked about how many wives he had, and all his sons..(nothing interesting) Then it went on talking about Laban catching up to Jacob as he was running away to get back his gods that were taken from him by Rachel. One of the things that got me thinking was that even though Laban had his own gods, God still spoke to him regarding Jacob and interestingly enough Laban listened and obeyed. So here is this man that worships some other gods, but yet God still talks to him..i found that pretty amazing, if God speaks to people who don't even worship Him, how much more will He speak to us His children who worship and believe in Him! The next thing is this, if Laban knew that the God of Jacob was real and obeyed Him, why does he still worship other gods that were fake? I mean once you find a real God that is alive, why would settle for other gods that aren't even real? The fact that Laban obeyed means that he must have feared God, because if he didn't fear God he wouldn't have obeyed God. Lastly, we learn once more that God is a God who protects us, guides us, and makes our path straight. God told Jacob to leave from where he was, and Jacob obeyed, but in the process got chased after by Laban and his men. However God protected Jacob and prevented any harm against him, by speaking to Laban. So if we obediently follow what God tells us to do, we won't have to worry about anything else, because God will make a way for us!
You are my shield, my strength, my portion, deliverer. My shelter, strong tower, my very present help in time of need..
Reached into
This heart of mine
Love pure as finest gold
Jesus set me free
Perfect liberty
Filled my soul, and now I know
Chorus:
Your love's
Higher than
The highest mountain
Deeper than the sea
Wider than
The widest ocean
Gentle as the breeze
Your love's
Stronger than a mighty river
Fresher than the rain
Not one thing can separate us
From the love
That Jesus gives us
Nothing separates us
From Your love
---------------------------
As i was praying/worshipping today, this song just popped in my head.. and as i was just singing it, the words of the song were so meaningful and powerful, and it just touched my heart.. God's love for us is so amazing and so divine, and the more you love someone, the more you get hurt by them when they hurt you.. Just thinking back on all the times which i had done something wrong which must've hurt God, i just feel so bad, but still God continues to love us.. God's love is so real and evident in our daily lives, if we only take a few moments each day to think back to what God has done for us, we'll realise that everything He does, is out of love for us.. And imagining about the greatness of His love always leaves me speechless.. Not one thing can separate us, from the love that Jesus gives us, nothing separates us from Your love..
Day 18.
Today's devotion reading was another history lesson, this time on Jacob! After cheating his brother, Esau, of their father's blessing, Jacob ran off to his uncle's(Laban) house where he stayed and ended up marrying his uncle's 2 daughters(Leah, Rachel). Then they went on for like a whole chapter on how many different people he slept with e.g his wives, and their servants.. and then a list of all the kids he had. All because in the old testament, child birth must have been a really important thing for women.. it's as though if you can't bear kids, you must be cursed or something.. It must have so important because when they can't bear kids, the wives would just send their servants to sleep with their husband.. how weird is that? I don't think these things even happen in our times, it seems pretty wrong to me.. going to the extend of having their servant sleep with their husband just so that they can please themselves or the other party to show that they have kids, which in the end isn't even theirs, coz the kids came from the servant! However one thing which i read that i still don't quite understand is the whole deal of Jacob keeping the speckled or spotted sheep/lamb, and his uncle, Laban, keeping the rest. Because after that it is recorded that Jacob does something with some bark or wood, and places them in the troughs and in the water channel.. then it's got something to do with the stronger of the flock breeding, and the weaker of the flocks.. Than after that he says that God spoke to him about the whole spotted and speckled sheep issue, and then they had to leave the land. Was there any significance in the story? Don't think i quite caught the meaning behind the story..
Day 17.
Well today i read a bit on Isaac's later part of life, then read how Jacob stole his brothers blessing, and also the birthright from his brother Esau. What i found interesting was how both Abraham and Isaac lied about their wives when they were asked, maybe the laws back then might have been different, but i can't imagine anyone getting killed because their wife is too beautiful/pretty in these days.. That to me seemed pretty cowardly, valuing their own lives above their wife's life. Another thing which im not too sure about is also the importance of the birthright and getting blessed by the father. I don't think we follow that system anymore, or least i don't know of such things as those happening in our families.. We don't see brothers fighting over birthrights, and getting blessed by their fathers, infact we don't even hear people talking about such things in the new testament.. Maybe it was something that got abolished when Jesus came? haha the old testament is pretty weird and confusing, but thank God that we're not living in the old testament, but instead in the new testament under God's grace!
For my devotion, i'm up to Day 16! Hopefully i didn't miss any while in Sydney.
So today im up to where Isaac gets his wife, Rebekah(Genesis 24). What i found interesting was how he got her. After reading the passage, i can tell straight away that she definitely was from God to Isaac, because it's like some sort of miracle that is so clear and precise. So basically, Abraham sent a servant to look for a wife for Isaac, and the servant prayed a very specific prayer to God on how he will meet the wife of Isaac, and how he will know that she is the right woman. Reading that prayer sounded like the servant was too demanding, asking from God even to smallest detail as to what their speech will be like! But the amazing thing is that even though the request from the servant to God was virtually impossible, and seemed like it wouldn't happen.. God still granted that request, and what the servant asked for was given to him exactly! After reading that passage, i think it is obvious to say that Rebekeh was indeed the woman for Isaac who was chosen by God.
This just reminded me once again that whatever we ask God for in His name, He will give it to us, no matter how crazy the request may seem. I wonder if only finding the partner God has for us is still as easy as it was back then.. Neither of them had to go out looking for their partner, all they did was pray and asked God to show them who it was, and God just revealed it them! Haha to me it seems like some sort of fairy tale or story where everything works out so easily, its so hard to even believe that these sort of stuff would still happen in our current days.. Oh well we just gotta trust in God!
Your grace is enough, more than i need, at Your word i will believe..
Wow ok... lets see where to start.. Hillsong Conference was simply amazing, awesome, and mindblowing!!! It was an experience that i am so blessed and lucky that i went for, it was definitely life changing as everything about the conference was just great! I had high expectations for the conference and the amount i received was just so amazing.. It's like getting on a high that's so amazing and it just leaves you speechless, in awe of how great God really is. Just a quick run through of the sequence of events of a normal conference day.
9.00 Morning Rally - Worship + Sermon
10.15 Short Break
10.45 Combined Stream Session - pretty much 2 more sermons or talks
12.15 Transition Time - for us to walk to our elective venue since the area is huuugee
12.45 Elective I - my first elective was musician(drums), electives go for an hour
1.45 Transition Time - walk to next elective venue(optional, some only go to 1 elective)
2.00 Elective II - my second one was Youth Pastor & Leadership
4.30 Night Rally #1
7.30 Night Rally #2 (only assigned to 1 night rally, and we were in this one)
So this is pretty much the timetable for the whole week. We start at 9am and end at around 10pm. If we factor in transportation time for us to get to and back from the conference itself, we normally had to wake up at 6.30am everyday and sleep at 12-1am. So throughout the whole week it was really tiring due to the lack of my normal amount of sleep, and waking up extra early. But once the conference starts i would be wide awake and fully into it, and once we hit a break, i'll be all tired again hahas.. Even though it was a long and tiring conference, i never felt one bit tired during the worship/sermons/electives, because it was just sooo good that my own body didn't want to miss any bit of it. Not to mention how great worship at hillsong was. It was as though worship there has gone to a whole new level(if it's possible), like i've never been to any crusades, or conference, or large events where there are like 20,000-30,000 other people worshipping with us all raising hands and just worshipping God. The sight and presence of God in the arena was simply phenomenal, once worship starts, *bang!* you can just feel the presence of God just fall in the place. Not forgetting how crazy their own worship team is, all talented people who are blessed with amazing gifts of song writing/singing from God. Then there'll be moments where they invite guest speakers up on stage to sing a few songs, people like Israel Houghton, Leeland, and Michael Gungor who are all people who are so anointed and blessed by God too.
Then on the hand there had these fantastic speakers who have a whole different style of preaching, and the way they look at things different and has a fresh sort of feeling to it whenever they preached. Some of the great speakers were Judah Smith, Mike Pilavachi, Paul de Jong, Joseph Prince, and Joyce Meyers. All of which were ver very inspirational, funny, and knew how to get the audiences attention. One thing that i was amazed by them was their ability to capture the audiences attention, and never once make their sermon seem boring. It seemed as though that time literally flew while they were preaching, because time would just go by so fast!
Ok im now gonna attemp to write down what happened day by day. Hope it works haha..
Day 1(Monday)
Started with the night rally at 7.30pm so had nothing before that.
Night Rally: speaker - Judah Smith Title - Embracing Grace
Well for this sermon, he preached about the prodigal son from Luke 15. If im not mistaken, the way he preached it was really different, and he added bits of funny parts to make to parable funny and light hearted. But i'll just write down some of the notes that i got from that sermon.
- grace comes to us, its from God to us, and not us to God
- grace is not logic(no comprehendable by human mind). there's no cause and effect.
- grace is always hugging us, we just need to embrace grace!
- the picture of grace and the pinnacle of grace is the cross
- the parable of the lost sheep is not about the sheep but about the shepard, the parable of the lost coin is not about the coins but about the person who finds all lost things(e.g us!), and the parable of the prodigal son is not about the 2 sons but about the loving father!!
- trying to get ourselves to grace, only gets us a long way off
- we were never worthy, God was the only One who was worthy
- when the robe was 'put on' on the son, it was forced on even if he didn't want it(just like grace!)
- It's time to rise up to the grace given to us!
Had no notes on morning rally because i think we were a bit late on that morning due to transportation factors and so missed a bit of the sermon. Didn't take notes on the combine stream talks because i didn't think it was meant to be sermons haha..But i took notes for the 2 electives and the night rally.
Elective #1: Musicians - Hillsong team
A lot of technical stuff i guess. They did a whole introduction thing for a while then talked about transitions from one song to another, then they talked about 'clicks'(i think that's how its spelt, which is basically just a metronome), and about the role of the MD(Music Director). Transitions was a blur to me since it was about transitioning from one song which has a certain key and a certain time signature, to another song which was totally different. Didn't quite understand half the stuff they talked about, so might have to check with Yang about that. Then they talked about clicks which i found really interesting and also would be useful to our worshipnet. They said that the click helps to keep the whole team in time, and some times can be very annoying since it is left on for the whole song, but it helps them to start and finish their songs at the same time. Lastly, they talked about the important role that a music director has in coordinating the whole 'band' of the worship team(e.g all the musicians). Normally for their worship, the worship leader and the MD for that service would get together and discuss about the choice of songs, transitioning, and free worship..and from there the MD will tell it to the rest of the band. The idea of the MD is to have one point person to help communication. The MD must have a good attitude and must always be setting up the worship leader for a 'win'. The team must die to self daily, since it's not about us, but about God. We have to serve the song by bringing it excellence, we have to play the strengths and improve the weaknesses. Ultimately what is really important and required of a good worship team is a really good relationship between every single member. Need to know when the leader wants this to happen, and when another instrument is building up, and communication on stage is really important(eye contact). Relationship is key!
Elective #2: Youth Pastors & Leadership - Hillsong Youth Pastor(Sanga)
I found this talk really good and really useful, so i naturally i took down lots of notes..hope it makes sense!
- one thing certain, passionate people are contagious
- Mark 15:8-15(can't remember how its related exactly..)
- doing what we normally do can get stale and stagnant, and we won't see any change
- safe playing youth ministries don't grow!
- the people that you love may not be with you for the long term, but the people that love you will stay with you for the long term!! (Wow!)
- when something wrong happens we go back to what was safe. Playing safe, safe ministries. e.g the disciples went back to fishing..what was 'safe' for them. not good
- if your flogging a dead horse, it's time to dismount(found it really funny)
- being in the youth ministry, we gotta think new, fresh, different, and vibrant! the message is sacred, but the method is not sacred! e.g change the packaging
- Need to Constantly Change!!!!
- we need to stir up the crowd, if we let them have a voice, they will have a voice.(i think it's related to the scripture reading above) in this case, the 'voice' is a bad thing.
- the culture we create is the culture that will grow. we have to be careful of what cultures we allow and introduce into the youth ministry.
- we have to address the wrong cultures, if not it will grow. Can't afford to have a 'crowd'(from scripture)
- we need leaders who are inclusive and not exclusive. One can only be a leader when he can be a friend.
- need to be leaders who can carry the night, and leaders who add something, not just someone who just fills up carpet space.
- Don't be a moral leader, one that talks about do's and don'ts, because when someone fails, they won't come back. We have to point to Jesus!
- We shouldn't be moralising people, but Christianising them!
- Stop making them believers, but make them a place where they belong. Soon they will believe in what we believe in.
- nothing we ever do should be a gap filler, everything must be done for a purpose!
- involvement = connection. We need to get people involved!
This guy is a great preacher and is a youth pastor of a church in the UK called 'Soul Survivor'. He is a really really really funny man!! You'll never stop laughing at his sermon! In this sermon he talked about the connection between evangelism, worship, and justice.
- worship is the language of love, our expression of love to God.
- when we love someone, we don't just tell the person, but we tell everyone!!
- evangelism is an overflow of worship. We don't need to force ourselves to tell others about who we love
- the best evangelical tool for church is worship. When we worship, His presence comes. And as we worship the Holy Spirit comes and does what He always does, which is to convict people.
- when we love someone, we want to please them and put them infront of ourselves. Sin won't be a problem because we know God hates sin and we would want to please God.
- evangelism that doesn't come with worship is legalism
- we can preach about heaven, or give a glimpse of heaven. Worship is a glimpse of heaven!
- worship, evangelism, and justice goes hand in hand
- God cares for the poor and broken. Amos 5, Isaiah 58
- we feed the hungry coz we love Jesus, compassion for the lost.
- God loves the 'sinful' people, that's why He sent Jesus to the cross!!
- *then he gave a whole example christians that hide in a castle which was really funny* main point was that we shouldn't just let down the drawbridge of the castle, but instead knock down the walls of the castle!
- God is with the poor, and we are with God when we are with them.
Morning Rally - Speaker: Paul de Jong
Hmm can't really remember much about this guy, all i remember is that he's got a pretty big church in New Zealand, and also in the middle of his sermon he had this item where he had these bunch of guys wearing black to do the Hakka on stage. Was pretty funny...
- Ezekiel 37:1-14(he started off with this scripture about the dry bones)
- when God brings us into a new season, he puts us in trials and troubles
- an attitude of simply enough is an enemy of expectation
- God has no maximums
- a failure to fund enlargement, robs expectations
- Abraham had to sacrifice his son to God, his one most precious valuable thing that he had waited for years. What is our 'son' ?
- what robs expectation is called a loss centred experience
- victory is not always seen in the first or second round, we might be in a place of preparation. We will go through things but we mustn't let it rob our expectations
- some things we will only learn through the fiery furnace
- we can't direct the wind, but we can direct the sails(can't remember what context this was in)
- we have to be excited about the future, increase our level of expectation. We will live our inner revelation which goes from head to heart!
- Understanding will lead to revelation, revelation leads to conviction.
- our future is conditioned by the revelation we activate
- we need to have an understanding of the seasons - 1 Thessalonians 5:1
- we must haven an active prophetic voice, and hear the prophetic word of God.
- the Lord looks at our heart, our heart is pivotal. We need to guard our heart above all else.
- Jeremiah 17(Our heart is deceitful above all else)
- our actions are directly related to the state of our hearts
- we have to recognize the alarm bells in our lives. When life gets hard we normally harden ourselves, but we have to soften ourselves. Honestly and deliberately yield ourselves to God
- need to pray to God to create, renew, restore
- the state of our heart is critical. Ezekiel 3:26(heart of flesh), 2 Timothy 1:12(knowing God)
- 3 Things(can't remember what they're about)
- 1. Worship - learn how to worship. genuine/true worship in spirit and truth. Learning how to host His presence and lingering in it
- 2. Word of God - Psalms 100:19(God's word in our heart) must be alive in us. When we get tested through the fire, the Word will sh0w
- 3. Serve - serve the Lord with gladness. keep on serving. We have to push ourselves all the way to the bottom, to make sure we are serving
- when we read the Bible, we see Jesus in it, and we want to be like Jesus. Devotion is like a bridge that brings us to be more like Jesus.
- we are the light of the world, and we have to let our light shine to the world
- discover what God wants us to do, and do what He wants
- the duty of the is to make our city filled with 'lights'
- "Christian" is a noun and not an adjective. No such thing as christian bookstore, or christian books, or christian music.
- the word "Christian" means:
- someone who belongs to Jesus, of the Jesus party
- someone who is different to the world around them, one who stands up
- someone who bears God's name and represents it well
- Christians described themselves as believers, who were called to be witnesses, and also to be a servant.
- its not a sacrifice to die as a Christian, but a privilege
- we need to bridge the gap between us and God, to change the world.
- taught how to 'lock in' with one another (the bass and drum kick)
- a good relationship is really important, need to know each other well
- drums and bass should play with a metronome to both keep the beat
- the way we drum is to point people to God, and to play with our spirit and heart
- taught to practice on pillows, add weights to ankles, or loosen to kick springs
- bass should practice in the dark, a lot of times its just muscle memory
- in a band, everybody has to LISTEN to one another, and know their place.
- communication on stage is very important/vital. Do not step on toes.
- loudest voice always prevails, so we gotta make God the loudest voice
- we have to live change ourselves, follow the right living
- out of the overflow comes our culture
- devotional method of journaling: S.O.A.P
- Scripture, Operation, Application, Prayer
- its easy to invite people to church, but hard to share with them the gospel
- hard times build character, we have to pay a price ourselves
- we need to raise a generation that understands sacrifice
- always need to look to create opportunities for other, create roles
- don't ever give up
- the enemy will tempt us with nasty things, by trying to steal our calling, or tempting us with money, honour, prestige, titles, jobs, or anything else
- the calling of God is worth so much more than anything else!!!
Haha this lady is an awesome speaker, she is a real inspiration and definitely has the gift of talking! She is just so anointed and her sermons are really like a whole different level!
- if we love Jesus, we are to feed his sheep, help someone else who is in need
- the more we live under the law, the more we try not to do wrong, but the more wrong we do
- the more we fix our eyes on Jesus, the more we won't want to do wrong
- Galatians 2:19(we die to law, to live to God!)
- Jesus didn't die so that we can have a religion, He died so that we can have a deep intimate relationship
- we mustn't just be muzzled and not have any change on the inside
- we need to fix our eyes on God's grace, believing that God can change us, and that we can't change ourselves
- religion loads us down with rules and laws, but doesn't help us to keep them
- our body is an instrument of sin that satan uses to get to us
- we have to develop our spirit. "I hear from God because I am His sheep. I can trust that I can hear from God and be led by the Spirit."
- if our heart is right to hear from God, we just need to give God the burden to speak to us
- it always starts with dying to the law and dying to self! When we see ourselves as dead with Christ and dead to sin, we live with Christ!
- It's hard to get into a chair we're already sitting on.. can't get what we already have!!
- we are what we are and can't be anyone else. We just got to be who we are!
- We are COMPLETE in Christ!
- God anoints us when he calls us!!!!
- even when we are weak, we are still in Him. Our confidence is in Christ
- we don't do things out of duty to God, but out of our desire for God. Offering is not out of obligation, but out of devotion!
- God will not anoint us to be somebody else
- we mustn't let anyone else be a law for us, don't follow other people's laws. If reading the Bible is a law for us, we won't get anything out of it.
- whoever the son has set free is free indeed! Don't let anyone be a law to us
- 2 Cor 3:15-18(it talks about a veil covering us, and that veil prevents intimacy. It covers the mind. The veil is the law, so when the veil is removed, we can have intimacy with Christ)
Morning Rally - Speaker: Joyce Meyer Title: Change and Transition
- we can make changes, but we need to transition into the change
- change needs to happen! God is a God of progression.
- when reaching to a new thing, we gotta let go of the old things.(step of faith!)
- when we make changes, we gotta give people time to change as well
- the morals and message never change, but the package can!
- many times we get soul tied to things and don't want too change
- when change occurs, we can either go against it, or transition into it.
- we have to adjust and adapt to things and changes
- we must have humility - accept that there are other ways to do things
- we have to give people liberty and freedom to have a free choice
- on the other hand, we can be too adaptive and not stand up, and confront what we're meant to
- when we lose our peace, we lose our power. God is a God of peace, and that's how He works
- sometimes we need to have humility to have peace(minding our own buisness), its not the big stuff that bothers us, but the minor stuff
- repressed anger is worse than expressed anger
- believe in the power of confessing what we want, and not what we have
- God didn't bring us to wherever we are to change the circumstance, but to change ourselves!!
- we have to change or mindset, things aren't just gonna change, we have to set in our mind to be happy.
- do not give the devil one more day of our life
- Three Things of the Kingdom (Romans 14:17)
- Righteousness
- peace
- joy in the Holy Ghost
- we gotta seek and pursue after peace, it won't fall into our laps
- need to learn who we are in Christ(our identity)
He gave a whole lot of verses.. wasn't really much of a sermon, more of a talk.
1 Chronicles 22:5-6, 1 Kings 15:14-15, 1 Kings 8:17-18, 1 Kings 9:3-4, Psalm 42:4, Exodus 35:21-22, Matthew 16:18, 1 Timothy 3:15, Ephesians 5:25,27
- we should never lose sight of God's heart
- church is a movement that is going somewhere
- never underestimate the power of being a part of God's church
- It's all about connecting God's heart for God's people. We are His church.
- Genesis 28, 2 Corinthians 5:20, Psalms 27:1-6
- God calls His church a family, body, and house
- we know that we aren't perfect, but that doesn't change God's love, plan, and hope for us.
- we need to be gathered and scattered at the same time
- we can make the body of God so beautiful that people can come and have a glimpse of God
- as the church, we have to make the way, light the way better, make the truth easier to find, make entering in less exclusive, and let God's heart be felt.
- we have to fall in love with the church
Hmmm i didn't take any notes this session since it was just another big Q&A session. At the start they gave out some drum notes which are really good to practice, then they talked a bit about the technical side of drums..(which i didn't quite get coz im not a technical person) And lots of questions from different people! One of the questions that i found interesting was that someone ask what to do if they had to play in a really small hall. The hillsong drummer took a short pause, then with a smirk on his face said electric drums, then cracked up laughing.. so i presumed that it was a joke.. He later explained that they themselves had a similar problem in one of their music rooms where drums were too loud so they decided to go with an electric drum kit, but they didn't recommend it. The solution they gave was to change to 'quieter/softer' drum kit e.g smaller and thinner cymbals.. They also suggested playing softer, and maybe learning different wrist/arm methods of hitting the drums softer but yet with the same amount of passion and heart. Found it really useful!!
Elective #2 - Youth Pastor & Leadership Speaker: Mike Pilavachi
- Jesus' disciples were like a youth group, all he ever did was to hang out with them
- don't make them consumers(like leechers i guess)
- Jesus got His disciples to take part in the miracles e.g raising of Lazareth, feeding the 5000
- Jesus did the miracles with the hands of the disciples, He got them involved
- He taught them as they went along
- to be a good disciple, space has to be given to be a bad disciple. Same as Jesus' disciples, they didn't things perfectly, some failed at times.
- we have to do things the Jesus way. It always works!
- none of us had worse material than Jesus did, we just need to love them like Jesus did, because love transcends all!
- let them know it's out of love
- we need to be a father, and not a teacher. The church needs fathers to rise up!
- we do our job because it's God's call
- There's a whole generation of young people who wants to be loved, they want to know and feel God's love.
- As we do, we will see miracles.
Ok so this sermon was a bit different. I wrote notes on it, but i don't think half of them even makes sense to me, its got to be in the right context, so typing it out won't do anything. The preaching was also done very fast, and i missed out on a lot of major points because i couldn't write fast enough. So the best way is to just grab a copy of the sermon and listen to it again. Ps Joseph Prince's method of preaching is also slightly different since he uses the translation of the old Hebrew names a lot. There were some parts of his sermon which i wasn't too sure about so notes taken didn't really mean anything. Basically he had a prophetic word, and that it was the people in the stadium that night were of the Benjamin Generation. Not much i can say, so best if everyone gets a copy of the sermon and listens to it.
DAY 5(Friday)
Morning Rally - Speaker: Judah Smith Title: What's Your Point?
- Scripture - Genesis 15:1-6, Psalm 147:4
- God is trying to lift us up to see what He sees, everyone has a point of view and it affects everything we do
- the Bible is God's point of view, we have to look at life from heaven to earth
- we can churches but we can't change kingdoms. Ultimately we have to follow the king!
- is our point of view biblical? Is it how God sees?
- Abram had an attitude because of the things leading up to it(e.g God told him that he will have a child, but waited 20years and still had nothing) when people tell us that we're 'anointed', do we get bored(an attitude) after hearing it 10 times and see nothing change?
- Abram was in a tent(like we are), and was so caught up in his own circumstances. God pulled Abram out of his tent, so He will pull us out of ours too
- God didn't just do anything magnificent.. He made everything!!
- We have to move out of our tent, like Abram, and see God's point of view
- we must want out of the tent(limited paradigm)
- our destiny is not the tent, but the stars in the sky.. the nations, and cities..
- Genesis 15 belongs to us!!
- no father would ever want his child to go to hell, same with our Heavenly Father.
- we can hasten the day of His return, by sharing the word with everyone
- don't ever be discouraged because God is a responsible God. He is Faithful to His Word.
- we(church) have to get our act together, and focus. God puts burdens on us to be stirred
- Zachariah 4:6(not by might, nor by power, but by His spirit)
- if we can see it, we can do it!
- when we trust in God, all our troubles will melt away like wax before God
- God wants us to build something in HIS strength
- Zechariah 4:10(do not despise small beginnings)
- despise: a feeling of something that it is not worth our consideration
- we got to value what God's put in our hands, do not despise
- Jesus came to show us how the kingdom works(e.g feeding of the 5000 with just 5 loaves and 2 fish)
- the multitude are fed by what we have, through Him!
- giving thanks is the opposite to despise (Jesus gave thanks for the food!)
- never let the devil have our confidence, believe in whatever God has called us to do
- make a decision to never give up. DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED!
- there will be a lot of test that a leader has to go through
- every opportunity will have an opposition
- the bigger our ministry, bigger the chance of people taking a shot at us
- we have to develop our love walk, love one another because love is spiritual warfare
- love has to be done on purpose everyday!
- Justice makes wrong things right. Seeing a wrong situation and doing something.
- God didn't call us to be musicians(can be anyone), but minstrels.
- it's all about the heart, and what the heart can communicate
- difference between 'get to' and 'got to' (attitude and honour) e.g i get to play drums today, or i got to play drums today.. big difference..
- instead of remembering to worship God, remember the God of worship
- practice the presence of the Lord, practice getting to new places(in worship)
- got to help people to discover God through our instruments, not us but God!
- as a team, we just try not to get in the way of worship. Not be distracting or standing in the way
- preparation is important, but at the same time we are not just a player, but a worshipper. Its all about the heart
- we can worship with anything e.g our work.. worship is the offering. Its what, how, who, and why we worship
- what makes our task holy, is that in whatever we do, we offer unto God
- our acts of worship brings heaven down to earth in a tangible manner
- we have to take our job seriously
- Scriptures: 1 Chronicles 11:17-18, John 18:11
- youth pastors/leaders are most insecure people(think it was a joke haha..)
- learn how to be strong in grace! Be who God has called us to be.
- we have been anointed and appointed for our calling
- as long as we are dependable on affirmation of others, it hinders our ministry and makes us insecure
- if we're not careful we'll get drunk on affirmation from others
- be like David and pour out the water, since it is not our cup. If we don't pour it out we will get intoxicated
- we have to give to God what is deserved of God
- if we drink the cup others give us, we won't be able to drink the cup that God has for us. Don't get drunk on the cup given to us from others!
- "I will be who God has called me to be, i will not apologise but utilise."
- the important thing in ministry is the condition of our spirit
- if we want to grow our ministry, we have to grow our spirit. Spirit begets spirit.
- the art of meditation has been undeveloped and overlooked. We have to constantly preach to ourselves
- we can preach good if we ask the right questions, by asking the Holy Spirit.
- we have to guard and protect our spirit! don't let anything get in the way
- Don't turn teaching into boring preaching. Teaching is very critical!
- we need a ministry that has a great amount of velocity, and to flow with the Spirit.
- we can't teach passion, therefore we need leaders with passion!!!
- we each have 1 life to live and 1 life to give
- many times we pray wrongly, asking God for something we already have
- power in the pulpit comes from living our everyday lives
- Romans 12:1-2
- no point dedicating church buildings, since the people are the church not the building
- we cannot just be moved in our hearts, we have to actually help people. Not just helping them by telling, but by showing
- every morning we gotta ask God what we can do for Him today!
- 2 Corinthians 8:5(got to give ourselves to the will of God)
- we have to give ourselves to God totally. Many people receive Him, but don't give themselves to Him.
- if we want others to care for us, we gotta care for others first
- we got to be at God's disposal and let Him do whatever He wants with us.
- one man totally and completely committed to God makes hell tremble
- we gotta start living a life with purpose on purpose!
- low life is living for self, but high life is living for others!
- 2 Corinthians 5:15(Jesus died so that we do not lead a selfish life)
- 2 Timothy 3:1-5
- peace is power. When the devil can't rattle you, he leaves you.
- obedience is also another spiritual weapon, but love is the greatest!
- we have to declare war against selfishness, daily giving our lives to God
- above all we have to 'put on' love. Which shows that it is action that we choose to do on purpose. Purpose ourselves to put on love.
- we need to spend more time clothing our spiritual self instead of our physical self
- 1 Peter 4:8 (loving people)
- to love people is to not be so hard on them, since everyone makes mistakes
- we need to go to church prepared to be a blessing
- We should be helping people, not telling the church the help them, since we ARE the church!
Hahaha ok so this was the last event that wrapped up the whole conference, and boy did it end with an awesome *bang!*. It was pretty much the hillsong team singing their whole new album to us live, and it sounded so amazing live. After listening their CD, sure it sounded really really good, but hearing it live is a whole new experience! The level of anointing and power in that place was crazy! Just leaving Acer Arena that night left me speechless, in total awe of God's presence and his glory that was in that place as we were worshipping with 30 thousand other people! The atmosphere there is not something that can be explained with words, but has to be felt and experienced personally. The new album is really just amazing, i'm loving every single song, and each one is just so unique and different, and the level of anointing in each song is just so amazing as well.. Many times i was just swept away by the lyrics of the song, not caring about how great they sound or how professional they are, but the heart behind the song is so genuine/real and is really touching. One of the songs that really really spoke to me was 'Healer', it's an old song that i've sung before..but this time, as i was singing it and letting the words minister to me, the presence of God just flooded over me and the words of the song just went straight through into my heart. It was like i was in this whole different place, and everything in my mind just went blank, and it felt like it was just me and God in that whole arena.. That night was definitely a night that will never be forgotten!
You are Here(The Same Power)
Same power that conquered the grave
lives in me
lives in me
Your love that rescued the earth
lives in me
lives in me
Just really quickly i'll just write down what i read today, since its really late and i gotta wake up at 6 tomorrow to go to the airport!
Day 3(The Flood)
Genesis 6:6-7
6 And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 So the LORD said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
So what i found interesting when i read this was that firstly we see that God was grieved. So He too has feelings and can be hurt, secondly, God was sorry to have made man, in the order versions it said regretted. So God does make decisions that He regrets too? haha i found that a very interesting point, not sure if im right though, but it was said really clearly.. So would it mean that it's alright for us to grieve and regret about decisions we make? Since God does it too? But God loves us too much, and is a just God. We can be sure that there won't be anymore floods that will wipe out like all living things anymore. And there's the whole message on Jesus, and new life through Him! Praise God!
You are the peace that guards my heart, my help in time of need, You are the strength that leads me on, and brings me to my knees...
- One Week Break! -
Tomorrow's gonna be great coz morning service is gonna be amazing, followed by more wonderful time of worshipping in the evening, ending off with our great Sunday worship/prayer session at night! Wow, being in God's presence with God's people is just the best! You can never enough of it!
Day 2
What spoke to me was Genesis 3:6.
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
So what i learnt from this verse was that sin represented the fruit that Eve took, and to her she saw that it was good, was pleasant, and was desirable. So similarly to us, even though sin isn't represent just as simple as a fruit anymore, im sure that the characteristics and traits are still the same. Sin to use would seem to be good, pleasant to the eye, and desirable. So anything that's like that to our flesh, would be sin. I'm sure that everyone by now would now what their weaknesses are and what are the sin's that they're facing in their lives would be. For me personally, i had realised what my sins were, and they were all because of my weak control over my fleshly body. Soo im working on crucifying my flesh daily, and walking learning to walk more in the spirit.
I think i've said this before, but once again in 2 Chronicles 7:14, we are told to turn from our wicked ways(which was what God pointed out to me really blatantly, and other stuff), then He will hear from heaven, forgive our sin and heal our land. That's my current focus which im working towards to, and really purging out everything that's wicked in God's sight.
How we need the river, how we need the rain, living water flow to us again, we pray..
Aaaaahhh!!! three more sleeps to hillsong!! yay!! can't wait for it :))
Ok for my previous devotions i've just been doing it randomly(like flipping open the Bible), and i didn't think that it was a good idea... soo i bought a chronological Bible that finishes the Bible in a year, so now i'll be using that as my devotional material, and at the same time help me to have a better idea of what goes on in the Bible in chronological order :) By this time next year, i can safely say that i've read the whole Bible at least once!
Day 1
(Lots of Bible references, so i don't think i'll put them all down, i'll just write what spoke to me)
Genesis 1:26-27
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
So i'm sure many people already this that we've all been made in God's image..So its all yay! and hooray! which is good. That we don't have to dislike how we are and how we look like, because we're made in God's image. But one thing we got to ask ourselves, is how much of God's image in us are we portraying? Are living the life that that God wants us to live. How much of God's image is reflected in us? When people look at us, can they see God in us? We are made in the image of God, but are we living like we have been made in God's image? Just some points to think about :)
Fellowshipping, and just talking with others about stuff made me realised how far back i've fallen behind because of all these exams.. grrr.. time to catch up, can't afford to fall behind..
Anyway today as i was reading the Bible, something that spoke to me was Ephesians 2:10.
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
So we are God's workmanship, which means that He is our creator(a plus!), and that we were created in Christ Jesus(another plus!), but also we've been created for good works!(another plus!). I'm glad that i've been created for good works, not just any kind of good works, but those that are considered 'good' by God's standard. Whats even more amazing is that these good works were prepared by God so that we shall walk in them. Like God didn't just prepare good works for us, it was so that we would walk in them, and in the process live life to the full potential that God has planned out for us!They were created for our benefit, out of God's love for us, that we may walk in them. Many times i fail to realise that certain things God ask me to do are for my own good. Like i would ask God what's the motive or His reason behind it, i know that i would never be able to understand it, but if only God would maybe reveal a bit of His plan to me.. Gotta remember that God only wants the best for us because he loves us, he will never put us in things that will just hurt us for no reason, it's all part of His plan that we may walk in them.. His plan is for us to walk in it, not just to know it and say that it is good, and do nothing else about it..
Your grace is more than enough for me...
Today i read 2 Thessalonians 3:1-5. I think i've read it before but reading it again is always different!
1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you, 2 and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith.
3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. 4 And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, both that you do and will do the things we command you.
5 Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.
Well what really spoke to me was when i read v2, and at the end it says 'for not all have faith', and i began to start thinking of myself. Like do i have faith? im pretty sure i do, that's why i pray. But isit possible to have like partial faith? Like have faith in one thing but not the other. I have faith that God answers prayers and does miracles, but is it possible to also at the same time not have as much faith in other areas? Like is there such a thing to have faith in God, but also at the same time not like 100% faith? If people say they have faith, why are there still so many who live and act like they don't? To live a life of faith, i would also imagine it to be something like living like the 12 apostles, but sadly i don't see much of that very often. I don't think that faith has changed over the years, it's just when we read the Bible of all the things that were being done back then, why isn't happening here and now? We've got the same faith, same Jesus, same God, same Holy Spirit. The only thing that is different is the vessel/carrier, which is us. Soo wouldn't that mean that the problem lies with us, that we're not experiencing what we're meant to be?
Today i read Ezekiel 3:16-21. Found it pretty interesting..
16 Now it came to pass at the end of seven days that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me: 18 When I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. 19 Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.
20 “Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die; because you did not give him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand. 21 Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man that the righteous should not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; also you will have delivered your soul.”
Well i read this in the morning right after i got up from bed, and this passage woke me up pretty good.. After reading v17, i was reminded of Isaiah 62:6 which also talked about being watchman, and after reading this passage, i got a clearer picture of a watchman. And it isn't a very fun or easy job because if you aren't do what your told, blood will be on your hands and you will be accountable to God on judgment day. Like at the end of v19 and v21, as long as we warn them, we have delivered our soul. But if we don't... consequences don't sound too good. This got my mind really thinking especially after i just woke up. There has been a prophetic word over nlcc that we will be watchman, and if we don't do as we've been told.. it's not gonna be pleasant..
I pray that i will have the courage to do as i've been told, and be the watchman that actually warns people, and not the one that does nothing..
