devotion for today was from Haggai 2:20-23. Managed to do it when i woke up so i was pretty happy.
20 And again the word of the LORD came to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying, 21 “Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying:
‘ I will shake heaven and earth.
22 I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms;
I will destroy the strength of the Gentile kingdoms.
I will overthrow the chariots
And those who ride in them;
The horses and their riders shall come down,
Every one by the sword of his brother.
23 ‘In that day,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel My servant, the son of Shealtiel,’ says the LORD, ‘and will make you like a signet ring; for I have chosen you,’ says the LORD of hosts.”
So the moment i flipped open my Bible, i landed on this page and my eyes just moved and read this passage. Anyway i after reading this passage, i didn't quite understand what God was trying to tell me. But one thing that sorta hit was the word 'shaken', because i've been hearing this word quite a lot lately from different people, and maybe this is where they got it from too? or are there other parts of the Bible which states God shaking heaven and earth.. Usually the only thing that can shake the earth is an earthquake, which is really powerful and most of the time cause deaths. But for God to shake not only earth but heaven at the same time, is that a show of His great power and might? Why shake the heavens too though? unless He meant shaking the heavenly realm.. Then in v22, it talks about God overthrowing and destroying kingdoms, people dying, and people getting killed. I'm pretty sure that the verse meant something deeper than what it just says, but its still something like judgement which is scary nonetheless.
Then in v23 the Lord calls himself the 'Lord of hosts', which im not too sure what that means..what did host mean back then? i always think of hosts as in like you have guests over at your place, and since it's your house your the host kinda thing.. But Lord of hosts? Then God calls Zerubbabel the governor of Judah, His servant, and tells him that He will make him like a signet ring, for the Lord of hosts has chosen him. Well, its not everyday or common to read in the Bible when God makes someone his signet ring(which means sealed ring i think), and is called by God as a chosen one. Zerubbabel must have done some special things, hmmm would be great if i could be someone special like that too..
God of all days, Glorious in all of Your ways, Oh the majesty the wonder and grace, In the light of Your Name
